QFlightBag: VFR and IFR charts in the cockpit. The charts of your flight, one tap away: departure, destination, alternate

QFlightBag is an aeronautical chart viewer designed for the cockpit. Before the flight, load the PDFs you will need (downloaded from the AIP); in flight, go from one to the next with a single tap, without searching through folders or documents.

It works for both VFR and IFR flights: visual approach charts (VAC) go on the VFR button, and SIDs, STARs and instrument approaches on their own buttons.

Features

One button for each chart, in flight order

  • Departure, on the left: DATA, TAXI, VFR and SID.
  • Arrival, on the right: DATA, VFR, STAR, APP and TAXI.
  • VFR for visual approach charts; SID, STAR and APP for instrument charts.
  • Tap a button and the chart changes instantly.
  • Load each PDF from the file picker, or share it from another app (email, browser, file manager): QFlightBag asks which button it goes on.
  • The buttons hide after 4 seconds so you see the whole chart; tap the chart to bring them back.

Destination and alternate

  • The arrival column has two sets of charts: destination (DEST) and alternate (ALTN). The DEST / ALTN selector is set apart from the chart buttons.
  • Load the alternate before departure, or in flight if you need it, without losing the destination charts.
  • When you switch airports, the same chart of the other airport opens (from the destination STAR to the alternate STAR).
  • Switching always asks for confirmation (Switch to the ALTERNATE?), and the alternate is marked in cyan so it is never mistaken for the destination.

Handwritten notes

  • The NOTES button, below the departure ones, opens a full-screen pad to write down with your finger what ATC gives you: frequencies, levels, headings, squawk code.
  • Several pages, with a counter (1/4) and previous and next page buttons; on the last one, + opens a new page.
  • Undo (the arrow icon) removes the last stroke, and also brings back a page you cleared by mistake with the bin.
  • The lock icon keeps a page on every NEW FLIGHT: frequencies or data you always use.
  • Notes are saved instantly: they stay there even if the app is closed.

Designed for the cockpit

  • Full screen, and the screen stays on.
  • Pinch or double-tap to zoom; the chart is redrawn sharp at any magnification, so even the smallest print is readable.
  • Each chart remembers its zoom and position when you come back to it.
  • Multi-page PDFs scroll vertically.
  • Night mode (NIGHT): black background and reduced brightness, keeping the chart colours.
  • Large buttons; touch and hold opens a menu to change or remove a PDF, so an accidental tap in turbulence changes nothing.
  • NEW FLIGHT empties every button and clears the unlocked notes, after confirmation, to prepare the next flight.

Offline and private

  • PDFs are copied into the app: they stay there even if you delete or move the original.
  • Works without Internet: the app has no network access, no accounts and no analytics.
  • No ads and no in-app purchases.

Use current, official charts

QFlightBag does not include charts: download them from the AIP or the official source you use, and always check they are current (AIRAC cycle).

QFlightBag is a personal aid, not a certified EFB: always carry a backup source.
